Pasta alla vodka is inspired by Italian and New York cooking styles and flavours, a rumoured favourite of model Gigi Hadid; it has been a big hit recently.
We’ve put together a simple recipe for this viral ‘vodka pasta’ dish that has sent teens into a frenzy. Let’s see what the fuss is all about.
Ingredients you will need:
- 2 tbsp of olive oil.
- ½ a white onion.
- 3 cloves of garlic.
- ¼ tsp of chilli flakes.
- 100g of tomato purée.
- 5 tbsp of vodka.
- 100ml of double-cream.
- 200g of your chosen pasta.
- 30g of grated parmesan cheese.
- Handful of fresh basil leaves.
Method
- Start by finely chopping or dicing your white onion.
- Get a large frying pan (or cast-iron casserole dish) and warm it to a medium heat.
- Add your oil and chopped onion and fry until softened.
- Add your garlic, chilli flakes, and a pinch of salt and cook for 30 seconds.
- Now add and thoroughly stir through your tomato purée. Cook for 3 mins,
- Stir through the vodka and cook for a further 3 mins.
- Add your double cream and quickly stir it through until you have created a creamy, red sauce.
- Remove from the heat and put to one side.
- Add some water to a pan with salt and a drizzle of oil. Bring to the boil.
- Add your pasta and cook to your liking.
- Add 50ml of the water into your sauce and stir.
- Add your sauce back on a low heat; now add your pasta and cheese and stir, ensuring everything is well coated.
- Sprinkle fresh basil on top, serve and enjoy.
Tip: Add a helping of black peppercorns for an extra crunch and pack of flavour.
